Woolies cupcakes out of reach? Prices have mzansi talking

As South Africans grapple with the rise in living costs, the impact of inflation is being felt more than ever in our daily lives. With prices for essential goods and treats skyrocketing, many find themselves forced to reconsider their spending habits.

In this context, user @onetkwonder took to TikTok to call out Woolworths for the exorbitant price of their cupcakes, priced at R97.00. called out the store for the high price of their cupcakes. In her clip, she touches the cupcakes and leaves them again, reminiscing about how these cupcakes have become a luxury she can no longer afford.

Her disappointment also reflects the broader economic challenges that many face in Mzansi today. In response, viewers flocked to the comments section, sharing their own struggles and frustrations with the store.

One user remarked: “It used to be R64.99.”

Another user wrote: “My problem with Woolies is how they increase their prices, they are not even inflation based, if they see something is popular they increase the prices.”

Another TikTok chimed in adding: “Once you like something at Woolies you come back 2 weeks later and it’s too expensive. these used to be R65 a year ago.”

Finally, one frustrated commenter noted, “I used to love these when they were reasonably priced, but now my cravings for them have even stopped!! ”
