Women owned restaurants to check out this Woman’s Day

Women all around the world are known to be “iimbokodo”, meaning hard rocks, they are recognised for embodying strength, resilience and power. They are nation-bearers and deserve to be honoured every day.

As we celebrate all things women this month, it is the perfect time to invest your time and look for ways to contribute to and support women’s successes and endeavours however you can. One of which is by searching for women-owned businesses, starting with restaurants.

If you are in Cape Town, you are in for a treat as the country is filled with amazing female-led eateries to explore, the following are a few among many:

Reverie Social Table

Reverie, located in Observatory, Cape Town, is a space for guests to disconnect from the world. it is famously recognised for its long dining table that allows people to socialise and connect. The restaurant offers special dinners curated by chef and owner, Julia Hattingh. The tasting room features 5 courses, one table, and guests, featuring sustainable, hyper-seasonal produce and small-scale suppliers from Cape and the whole of South Africa.

Cavalli Estate

Cavalli Estate has swiftly established itself as a well-known South African lifestyle brand thanks to its award-winning wine, gastronomy, design, architecture, indigenous gardens, and artwork. With Lauren Smith as the founder and managing director, the estate spans 100 hectares of prime land in the prestigious Helderberg region of Stellenbosch. It features a world-class equestrian facility, a 350-seat function venue, a contemporary restaurant, a retail contemporary art gallery, a luxury boutique, and 10 hectares of native fynbos gardens. The restaurant is also acknowledged as the go-to venue to host wedding ceremonies.

Salt & Sage

Kim Jordan, the owner and chef, is dedicated to delivering exceptional culinary experiences through her culinary creativity. The Salt and Sage team’s passion for parties and people has led them to create bespoke and boutique catering. They aim to provide clients with personalised events, where they source fresh, high-quality produce, ensuring every detail is considered. They are located at Marine Promenade, Cape Town.

Zsa Zsa Cape Town

At first glance, you can already tell this is where the vibe is, it’s giving cluby vibes. Zsa Zsa restaurant provides exceptional private event catering for up to 100 guests, ensuring flawless execution and creating unforgettable moments. Their venues, Ava and Darling, can accommodate large groups of 400 or more, making them ideal for corporate entertaining. This versatile establishment is located at 101 Hout Street, Cape Town City Centre.
