Winter is approaching: Don’t let it catch you off guard

by Akhona Ndlela

The days of enjoying iced coffee from Woolies on sunny days are gradually disappearing. The winter season has come to replace them with extra layers and warm chocolates.

Feeling cold in a hoodie that wasn’t designed for this climate? The harshness of winter can humble us if we’re not prepared.

Let’s do things differently this year, though. There won’t be any more last-minute jacket rushes, dry skin mishaps, or tea shortages when it counts most. It’s possible to keep warm, feel well, and truly enjoy the season—even on those chilly early mornings—with careful preparation.

According to Balancethroughsimplicity.com, doing a thorough cleaning, dusting off furniture, thoroughly cleaning floors, and washing soft furnishings is the first step in getting your house ready for winter. Look for drafts and use door seals, weather-stripping tape, and draft excluders to close them off. By scheduling an annual boiler service, bleeding radiators, and replacing filters, you can get your heating system ready for winter.

Organise your winter wardrobe, mix textures, and build layers with throws and rugs. For cosiness, add additional lighting, such as candles, lamps, and fairy lights. Winterise your outdoor area, check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and keep a fire extinguisher close at hand. Clear the gutters, prepare the walkways, and store or cover outdoor furniture, the source mentioned above also suggests.

Solgar claims, “Maintaining a strong immune system during the winter months is crucial to help protect against colds, flu and other illnesses. Here are some helpful steps to support your immunity. Though colds and flu are rarely life-threatening, many working days are lost and many appointments spoiled due to runny noses, sore throats and hacking coughs. ”
