Talking stages can either make or break a bond, for some it remains totally unnecessary and draining while for others, it is a necessary phase to ignite the spark prior to the dating stage. Sadly though. the recant reality is that this phase has rather been associated with too much negativity.

According to Independent – a weekly New York magazine – a talking stage may be defined as the earliest point reached when both parties have expressed their romantic interest towards one another, Independent further describes the talking stage as a “gray area of dating that Gen Z’ers created.” Cosmopolitan – a women’s fashion and lifestyle magazine based in America – describes this term as a “pseudo-relationship” that is filled with characteristics such as continuous texting, talking, dates and sometimes hookups.

Independent further elaborates that this phase of dating has existed since courting began, with the term only being founded recently. While this phase of pre-dating can be fun as it allows both parties involved to get to know one another and introduce one another to exciting things, there have been many negative connotation to talking stages.

People somewhat enjoy the buildup of chemistry while others dislike how this phase can be prolonged with no titles or agreements on exclusivity. Independent mentions that while the buildup can excite others, a handful of people may get overwhelmed until they one day decide to ghost the other. Many do rather describe the talking stage phase as a “vicious cycle of disappointment” as stated by Independent.

The anticlimax to this setting however is that there are no mutual commitments at times, which often leads to expectations, disappointments, broken hearts and tears. For some, this phase can rather be emotionally exhausting and taxing then it is fun, adventurous and flirtatious.

What makes this term quite prominent and confusing is that it is “vague and undefined.” Many people seem to be quite confused by the modern dating scene as the talking stage phase has taken over. Before the phase was misunderstood and misinterpreted, the origins of the talking stage were intended to “have the opportunity to get to know someone before committing to a relationship with them” states The Conversation –  an independent media source curated by professional editors.

In conclusion, form your intimate connections and take some time to know someone before you make things official with them. The Conversation advises that regardless of how modern times have changed things, a phase like this remains crucial and it is quite important that the talking stages be implemented and thoroughly enjoyed as some aspects of it remain necessary.
