Struggling to fall asleep within minutes? The military sleep method might just be your answer. This technique, used by military personnel to catch much-needed rest in challenging environments, promises to help you dose off within a short space of time

Health experts claim that it’s a straightforward approach that uses relaxation and mental focus to bypass the restlessness that keeps us awake. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the military sleep method is a relaxation routine that claims to help people fall asleep in two minutes, a popular remedy for those struggling with sleep.

The above clinic also mentions that while the method’s origin and teachings are unclear, it is believed to be used by service personnel, especially fighter pilots, to ensure quick sleep during time-sensitive situations.

Dreams publication claims that the average sleep duration is 6 hours, but most adults spend 7 hours and 22 minutes in bed, limiting their sleep time, this is due to busy work schedules or understanding they don’t need 8 hours of sleep.

The above source therefore suggests that getting sleep almost instantly is essential, and a simple two-minute method can yield significant benefits in the long run.

To practice this method, the Very Well Mind publication states that you close your eyes and focus on your breathing,  relaxing your face by focusing on one part at a time, releasing tension.

You are then instructed to drop your shoulders and arms, and then work your way down to your neck, shoulders, and arms. “Then focus on one leg, relaxing your thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot, and toes. Do the same with your other leg. Once you’ve consciously relaxed every part of your body, from top to toe, focus on clearing your mind. You can do this by focusing on a calming image.”
