Ways to boost your energy without caffeine

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

Almost everyone experiences fatigue on occasion. It usually strikes when we have personal or professional obligations that demand our time and attention. As a result, many people turn to caffeinated beverages for a quick fix. Unfortunately, while coffee, tea, or energy drinks may provide a temporary boost of energy, their effects are usually fleeting.

You’re not alone if you’re wondering how to get energy without caffeine. Caffeine sensitive individuals and those who find themselves relying on it excessively may find it beneficial to use some energizing alternatives.

Its important to find substitutes during the day to prevent from having 2-3 cups of caffeine.

Here are a few substitutions so that you’re not crashing by 3pm.

Wake up to sunshine

Wake up earlier so that you aren’t flustered and rushing to get everything done in an hour. Seeing the sunrise is an energy booster.

Eat foods with lasting energy

There is a list of foods that provide you with the same energy boost that caffeine would give you. Foods that contain lean protein and fiber rich carbohydrates, for example, apples, carrots or berries. Having a healthy snack throughout the day also helps.

Increase your water intake

Being dehydrated causes tiredness, confusion and irritability. Be sure to drink enough water and watch out for other signs of dehydration that might cause your energy levels to drop.

Exercise

Though it may appear counterintuitive, expending energy through exercise may actually aid in fatigue management. While exercise does require the expenditure of energy, setting aside time on a regular basis for a brisk walk, swim, or bike ride may help increase energy levels in the long run.
