With the rate of the economy going up in South Africa ,we need to find ways to have multiple streams of income to be able to keep up.

One TikToker was shocked when he went to a retail store and saw the prices of food. Sharing the video under his account @Maka_makx, he wrote, ” Are we going to survive? It’s us against the economy and inflation.”

This shocked not only @Maka_makx but a lot of other TikTokers, who shared their views on the prices. They wrote that R600 would already be used because of the few things shown in the video, as one cannot even buy important items.

The items shown in the video include, eggs, Oros, cornflakes, cheese and butter.

Many TikTokers took to the comment section to share their frustrations.

“What about us students with R1500 NSFAS? This is unfair.”

“High blood pressure and depression [is what] we get when doing groceries. Nooo this is too much.”

“We compare shops guys. I get weekly pamphlets, I check first. I stay next to Checkers, Woolies, Spar, Food Lovers and Pick n Pay. I always buy what’s on sale in the store. It works though, basics,” advised one user.

Another person said: “If you are doing your groceries now kumele uthathe ama house essentials kuqala, ugcine ngama cereals, kubi (you should start by taking the house essentials and then buy cereals last. It is bad).”
