Unplug and recharge with a digital detox morning routine

Unplugging is more crucial than ever in a world where messages, notifications, and endless scrolling constantly have us glued to our screens.

I am one of those people who need some serious detoxing. I do often switch off but not as much as I should. I hide behind the statement, ”I need to be informed.” Dramatic much? Yes, very much!

Nonetheless, the digital detox morning routine is a peaceful approach to begin your day, it frees you from the distractions of technology and leaves you feeling renewed and rejuvenated.

However, we are not saying shut the world off completely as tempting as that may sound for me, but rather do it in small bites.

Here are a few suggestions.

Avoid grabbing your phone as soon as you wake up. You can achieve this by using a traditional alarm clock instead. This small change prevents you from checking emails or social media before you have really woken up.

Take a moment, pray, and do meditation or mindfulness exercises. This might be as easy as completing a brief body scan or concentrating on your breathing. A peaceful mind keeps you grounded and creates a good vibe for the day.

Another great idea is to begin your day with a brief yoga session or some gentle stretching. Before being drawn into the digital world, moving your body first thing in the morning helps you wake up naturally and clear your head.

Take a quick stroll or go outside for some fresh air if you can. One of the best ways to ground yourself before the digital world invades is to connect with nature. But if you live where I live and all you see is concrete, look up, at least the sky is the one thing that is accessible to all of us as it is infinite.
