Congratulations on being a first-time mommy! This intimate experience can be simultaneously exciting and overwhelming.

Fret not!

If you are currently pregnant or soon planning to start a family, see below these tips that are sure to make your pregnancy as smooth of a journey as possible.

Research the type of delivery you prefer.

You have possible options when it comes to how you would like to deliver your baby. You could opt for a vaginal birth, Cesarean birth (C-section), water birth or midwife or doula birth, notes The Mother Baby Center. “It helps your expectations but also helps ease any worries you may have. But remember, every mom has a different labour experience.”

Take note of your pregnancy stages.

Although The Mother Baby Center notes that every pregnancy is different, there are, however, three trimesters the publication states need your attention:

  1. First trimester – This is the first three months of your pregnancy.
  2. Second trimester – This is 4-6 months of your pregnancy.
  3. Third trimester – The final stretch, 7-9 months of your pregnancy.

Forget Google, ask your doctor.

For each and every ailment, we always run to our good friend, Google. When you are pregnant, this should not be the case. It is best to write your questions down and ask your doctor, urges The Mother Baby Center. “Using the internet to answer your questions can often lead to a worst-case scenario or blow your question out of proportion.”

Show yourself some kindness!

Yes, you need to worry about your baby but do not forget to take care of yourself too. “You’ll experience plenty of changes, from your body to your emotions, but being kind to yourself will always help,” states The Mother Baby Center. The publication also provides three tips on how to be kind to yourself during your pregnancy:

  1. Partake in positive self-talk.
  2. Find time for relaxing activities you most enjoy.
  3. Prioritise your mental health.
