This is why sleeping with jewellery on is a bad idea

We all have bedtime habits, but you may want to think twice before sleeping with jewellery on.

To be fair, evenings when we feel like it would be too much work to remove our jewellery do exist! However, damaging your jewellery or causing skin discomfort are just a few of the reasons you should reconsider before going to bed with it on.

Below, are the reasons why:

According to the Amerisleep website, “Wearing jewellery while you sleep can increase the likelihood of skin irritation, specifically
contact dermatitis. The combination of metal and sweat can create a breeding ground for bacteria, leading to rashes, redness, and even infection. Metals like nickel, which are added to gold and silver, can be extremely irritating.”

The website mentioned above also states that your jewellery may bend, break, or lose its shape if you sleep with your body weight resting on it. Certain pieces may sustain harm if their clasps or prongs become tangled or entangled in bed linens.

Glam claims that permanent jewellery is excused as they are welded around your wrist or neck are bracelets or necklaces and is often composed of premium metal, won’t irritate your skin and may last a lifetime.

“If you do choose to sleep with your necklaces on, be sure to clean them regularly to avoid skin irritation. The best way to clean your jewellery is with warm water and mild detergent. If your jewellery needs extra polish, you can use a soft brush or microfiber cloth,” the above source further advises.
