It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend and a lot of people can attest to this, we love our furry friends and they often bring much joy into the house.
However, not all dogs want to be friendly with you, some of them are meant for dangerous missions such as hunting wild animals and chasing bad guys, this is why it is important to note that when choosing a dog pet, be mindful of what breed it is and whether it is domestic or not. Most of them are not dangerous to be kept around the home, it’s just that the environment of a household is not conducive for them.
Several dog trainers and relevant publications listed some dog breeds that people should not consider adopting for their homes because of their nature. They are:
Pit Bull: According to Blackburn Romey, the Pit Bull is a highly dangerous dog breed, they are responsible for more fatalities than any other breed. It is stated that children are the most at-risk for attacks. “They are a very aggressive breed and have been known to attack and kill people. They are also very strong dogs and can easily overpower anyone who stands in their way.”
Rottweilers: The publication above also mentions that Rottweilers are large, powerful dogs with a strong bite that can cause serious injury or death. They are said to be aggressive and territorial, making them a threat to humans and animals. “A study conducted by the CDC showed that Rottweilers were responsible for 29 human deaths over the past two decades, making them the second most dangerous dog breed on record.”
Siberian Husky: Pet Helpful states that the Siberian Husky, a popular dog breed since the 1970s, is often euthanized after new owners realize their issues. It is mentioned that Sibes are bred for work and are known for their ability to escape. “They are great at escaping, and if you think you can just buy a Sibe and put him in your backyard, you are sadly mistaken.” The publication continues to mention that they can also cause behavioural problems, such as digging up the backyard or chewing excessively.
German Shepherds: German shepherds are intelligent, protective dogs known for their service roles and home security, states the Dog Academy. However, “German shepherds accounted for 20 deaths from 2005 to 2017 and are responsible for several non-lethal bites throughout the years.” The mentioned publication also states that this breed’s bite strength is alarming, reaching 238-291 pounds per square inch and that due to their high prey drive, families with cats and smaller animals should avoid them.
