Coconut oil has proven to be one of the most versatile and healthiest foods in the world.

According to the website Dr Axe, coconut oil is made by pressing dried or fresh coconut meat. The oil is removed once the milk and oil are pressed from it.

When at cool or room temperature, you will notice that the oil is firm. However, do not be alarmed when it is exposed to heat, as liquified coconut oil is still usable.

Thanks to its versatility, here are 7 ways you can use coconut oil, as explained by Healthline.

Best for cooking and frying

87% of the fats found in coconut oil are saturated; meaning, it retains its structure when heated to high temperatures. This makes it one of the best fats to use when cooking or frying food.

Improves dental health

Coconut oil helps to fight the bacteria found in your mouth that cause dental plaque, gum disease and tooth decay.

A study found that swishing coconut oil in your mouth for 10 minutes reduced bacteria, making it just as effective as rinsing your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.

Relieves skin conditions

According to research, coconut oil improves dermatitis, for example, eczema, and other skin disorders at least as well as mineral oils.

Acts as a moisturiser

Coconut oil can be used all over your body. Although it can be used on the face, it is not recommended for those with oily skin.

If you have cracked heels that need some healing, apply a thin layer of coconut oil to them at bedtime and cover your feet with socks. Make this your nightly beauty regime to see smooth results.

Keeps hair healthy

A study showed that coconut oil significantly reduced hair protein loss when applied before and after shampooing.

Removes stains

To get rid of tough stains and spills, combine one part coconut oil with one part baking soda and mix into a paste. After applying the mixture to the stain, wait five minutes and wipe away.

Soothes chapped lips

Coconut oil can also work as a natural lip balm. It leaves your lips moist for hours and protects them from the sun.
