The importance of resolving conflict

The importance of resolving conflict becomes an important task when it has a negative impact on your relationships.

Experts say that it is crucial to understand these effects and processes that need to be followed when it comes to conflict resolution.

Global Peace Careers defines conflict resolution as the process of coming to amicable conclusions. Although it’s frequently used in professional environments, when there’s disagreement amongst colleagues, managers, or departments, the techniques also work in friendships, family, and romantic relationships.

There are 5 conflict resolution styles which include avoiding, competing, accommodating, comprising, and collaborating. Avoiding is ideal for heated situations, competing can lead to faster results but can damage relationships.

The accommodating style allows compromise, expert involvement, or greater investment. Compromising frequently ignores more important problems. Securing happiness through collaboration is a more time-consuming but ultimately effective strategy, the above-mentioned source adds.

HelpGuide.org states that healthy conflict resolutions involve situations where there is an ability to understand another person’s point of view, a willingness to let go of grudges and anger and to move on from the disagreement, the capacity to avoid punishment and look for compromise, and a conviction that it is beneficial for both parties to confront dispute head-on.

Mailchimp further explains that conflict resolution brings individuals together to tackle a problem. It fosters teamwork and demonstrates a great deal of strength when you can set aside your disagreements and work together to come to an agreement that benefits everyone. It also demonstrates your concern for finding a solution rather than being correct in the circumstance.
