Food wastage is one of the biggest problems faced all over the world. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council an estimation of one-third of the world’s food supply is wasted annually. Although this is the case, there are movements focused on making a change by embracing zero-waste cooking.

Zero-waste cooking is more than just saving money and reducing food waste. It is also about being creative in the kitchen, using up every part of the food you buy and minimising your impact on the environment. Below we will explore the benefits of cooking without waste.

Cooking without waste has many advantages but mainly it helps with the reduction of carbon footprint and fights climate change. The reduction of food waste can help with the conservation of resources such as water and energy to grow and process food. Therefore, if you reduce food that is wasted, it is easier to reduce the amount of water and energy used in the food system.

One way to reduce food waste is by planning your meals. This includes buying only what you will use to cook in order to lessen the amount of food you will throw away. You can also plan to use leftovers. For example, turning last night’s supper into a delicious meal for lunch.

The above mentioned source reveals that another way to reduce food wastage is to buy in bulk. This allows you to buy larger quantities of food at a lower price, and it also reduces packaging waste. Just make sure that you keep your food how it is meant to be kept so that they don’t spoil before use.

Every small step we take towards reducing food waste can make a big difference.
