In the recent Best Universities global rankings, South Africa’s leading universities secured prominent positions underscoring their growing influence in the global academic community.
Among the top performers in the country is the University of Cape Town (UCT), renowned for its research-intensive programs and innovative approach to education with a global rank of 116, according to BussinessTech, a business-focused publication.
Professor Jeff Murugan, acting vice-chancellor of UCT warns aspiring students: “While rankings assess various aspects of university quality, such as academic reputation, research output, faculty expertise and student satisfaction, they often don’t capture the full breadth of the impact of our work.”
“These rankings typically focus on measurable criteria, but universities also play a vital role in shaping public policy, promoting informed public discourse, advancing science and strengthening democracy and human rights,” the professor further added.
