As much as we love our pets and always want them around us, it can be quite frustrating finding a piece of them – that, being their fur – clinging to our garments, especially on dark-coloured clothing.
While the shedding of fur is a normal process for our pets, it can be difficult to normalise getting out the lint roller every few hours to take off the stubborn hairs. If you are trying to find easy ways to get your pet’s hair off your clothes, try the following simple tricks.
Wash your clothes in vinegar
Vinegar does not only have to be used to deodorise your clothes, but it can also be used as a way to reduce static cling. Joshua and Ashlie Waterman, co-founders of Stripped Down Laundry, tell home interest publication Homes and Gardens that, adding half a cup of distilled vinegar to a pile of laundry helps relax the clothing fibres and reduces the laundry’s pH. This then results in less static cling.
Choose the dry air on your dryer before washing your clothes
Joshua and Ashlie explain to the above-mentioned publication, “Another effective tip is to run the clothing through the dryer on an air-dry cycle for about 10 minutes before washing. This preliminary cycle helps loosen and dislodge pet hair, making it easier to remove during the subsequent washing process.”

Use a steamer
A hand-held steamer is ideal for delicate fabrics. According to home, food and living info hub MarthaStewart, the added dampness of the steamer will loosen the hairs from clothing without damaging the material.
Use a rubber glove
A simple rubber glove can also do the trick! All you have to do is rub your rubber-gloved hand over the hairy surface, says Dependable Cleaners, a company prioritising dry-cleaning. “Depending on the fabric content of your clothing, you might want to get the rubber glove slightly damp before running it over the fabric.”

If all else fails… use a lint roller!
Cleaning expert Muffetta Krueger tells Homes and Gardens, “Alternatively, you can use a lint brush with soft bristles to remove the pet hair from the fabric. Repeat this process until you’ve successfully eliminated all visible hair.”
