South Africa prides itself on its rich cultural diversity, this is often best represented through food.

From the famous bunny chow, to the delicious kota, not to mention Cape Town’s prominent street meal, the gatsby, food has a funny way of uniting communities in a manner that many still struggle to comprehend.

Each city comes with its unique signature meal, but within them are a rich tapestry of cultures that all contribute to creating unity, nation building and memorable moments.

“South African food is a delightful fusion of flavours and culinary traditions that reflect the nation’s rich history and multiculturalism. Think of it as a blend of African, Dutch, French, Indian, and Southeast Asian influences, with a focus on hearty, flavourful, and satisfying dishes,” explain African Safaris.

Some of the proudest home cooked meals later become so popular that they find their way to some of the most exquisite five-star eateries and restuarants across the country, providing tourists and local travellers with an authentic experience.

If treating your tastebuds to these meals is what you desire, there are many restaurants across the country where you and your loved ones can feast on authentic South African cuisine.

Here are a few worth mentioning, particularly in the Western Cape:
