As human beings, many of us put an overwhelming amount of effort into our appearances.
It is with valid reason; this is because appearances often have a psychological impact on how we feel and carry ourselves. Many of us are aware that by looking good we feel much more confident to tackle the adventures that life throws our way.
This is why many people opt to invest in a proper facial skincare routine.
“A good skincare routine helps keep your complexion looking healthy and glowing, prevents acne, reduces wrinkles, and helps you look more youthful. Proactively caring for your skin is easier and cheaper than repairing skin problems in the future,” explains skincare expert Beauty Mone.
The publication further revealed that a recent study proved that people who continuously looked after their skin had significantly improved their mental health, showing signs of improved feelings of empowerment, happiness, and self-esteem after just 28 days of usage.
However, with the continuous fluctuations of prices when it comes to purchasing these products, many may become despondent in the process, fortunately, you don’t have to fork out so much as there are cheaper food products that are more than able to do the trick
Below is a list of household foods that make the most perfect skincare masks:
Bananas
Rich in magnesium, potassium and vitamins A and E, Bananas can have your skin feeling soft, moist and supple, explains wellness publication Green and Bare.
“To create a quick banana mask, simply mix half a banana with a teaspoon of honey. Apply the mask to clean your face with your fingers. Leave on for 20 minutes then rinse off with warm water and pat dry.”
Avocado
Avocados might be a common favourite for many skincare lovers. This is due to the antioxidants that keep skin moisturised from within.
However, according to the above-mentioned publication this green vegetable also contains chlorophyll “which helps to reduce redness and inflammation, water to hydrate dry, flaky skin and Vitamin E to promote softness and prevent wrinkles.”
Similar to the banana this can be mixed with honey and applied to the skin for at least 20 minutes.
Milk and yoghurt
This dynamic duo contains lactic acid—a “known exfoliator with moisturizing properties, as well as proteins that may calm inflamed skin,” explains wellness publication Self.
