November fuel cuts announced: Petrol drops 51c at midnight

by Staff Bona

The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has published official fuel price adjustments that take effect at midnight, with motorists seeing modest relief at the pumps, reports Cape {town} Etc.

According to BusinessTech, October’s oil market moved between about $58 (R1004.29) and $68 (1177.31) a barrel as geopolitical and trade tensions shaped trading.

The rand averaged R17.29 to the dollar over the review period. This has led to lower basic fuel price calculations.

  • Petrol will fall by 51 cents per litre for both the 93 and 95 octane grades.
  • Wholesale diesel will decline by 21 cents per litre for 0.05% sulphur and 19 cents per litre for 0.005% sulphur.
  • Illuminating paraffin will drop by 1 cent per litre.
  • LPG will decrease by 61 cents per kilogramme.

Below is how the official fuel prices will appear inland and on the coast:

Pump prices for diesel may differ from the wholesale figures shown.

Location Product October official November official
Inland 93 Petrol R21.48 R20.97
Inland 95 Petrol R21.63 R21.12
Inland Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) R19.34 R19.13
Inland Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) R19.39 R19.20
Inland Illuminating Paraffin R12.99 R12.98
Inland LPG per kg R34.59 R33.98
Coastal 93 Petrol R20.69 R20.18
Coastal 95 Petrol R20.80 R20.29
Coastal Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) R18.51 R18.30
Coastal Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) R18.63 R18.44
Coastal Illuminating Paraffin R11.98 R11.97
Coastal LPG per kg R31.43 R30.82
Saldanha WC LPG per kg R33.60 R32.90

These adjustments reflect lower international product prices for petrol and diesel alongside a firmer rand, which together reduced the contribution to the basic fuel price by roughly 10.59 cents per litre for petrol and about 11.7 cents per litre for diesel and illuminating paraffin.

The slate levy remains set at 0.00 cents per litre from 4 November under the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism.
