Movie date night at home? Here’s how to set the scene

by Akhona Ndlela
PICTURE: PEXELS/ MOVIE NIGHT

Why go out when you can bring the magic of a movie date right to your living room? A night in can be just as romantic and fun with a little creativity.

Creating the ideal atmosphere at home may elevate a typical movie night into something extraordinary, whether you’re trying to avoid the crowds or just want to spend a comfortable evening together. An intimate, unforgettable experience that rivals any night at the theatre may be created with just a few well-considered touch-ups.

The set up

Set the tone with these few touches to make the experience even better. To create a cosy, romantic ambience, turn down the lights or burn candles. Collect all of the comfortable blankets, toss cushions, and other items that make relaxing alluring.

If necessary, rearrange your furniture to create a more intimate atmosphere. Setting up fairy lights throughout the space will add subtle, cosy lighting that shouts “date night” if you want to go over and above.

The snacks

Instead of the same old popcorn bags try something different like flavoured popcorn, chocolate-dipped strawberries, or a cheese platter, and for the drinks,  choose something that goes well with your evening, whether it’s a bottle of wine or easy-to-prepare mocktails.

Choosing the movie

Choose a movie you both will love, whether you prefer romantic comedies, suspenseful thrillers, or heartwarming oldies. For a fun twist, choose a movie that is based on a certain decade and match your snacks and drinks to that theme. The small things can have a big impact and show how hard you worked to make the date night even more special.
