Mint your space: How to use this versatile herb for home hacks

Mint is such a great herb to add to your kitchen garden. It’s an easy addition to salads, cocktails and even water to add a touch of luxury to your everyday efforts to hydrate. But there are numerous household uses besides consumption. Here are the unexpected household uses of mint.

Insect attracting

If you’re growing mint outside, it’s a great herb to attract beneficial insects, such as honeybees, to your garden and other plants.

Bug repellent

As much as mint attracts insects, it repels garden pests such as ants and flies. You can also make a mint oil and water solution and spray your doorways and window frames to repel insects from entering your home. Mint also repels fleas, so if you have pets, you can bundle mint into a little bag and place it near your pet’s bed.

Aromatic benefits

One of the joys of having mint in my kitchen is shuffling the mint leaves and getting a whiff of mint in the air. You can make a homemade solution of white vinegar to some water, with mint leaves or essential oils to clean your floors or tiles and keep your home smelling fresh.

Breath fresher

There’s a reason why mint is infused in many toothpaste brands. Naturally, mint helps to combat bad breath. You can even just chew a leaf or two and freshen up your breath in the most natural way.

Bin refresher

You can also use mint to refresh your bin and keep it smelling good. You can use a cotton ball dip it in mint essential oil and put it in your bin before placing a plastic bag to line your bin.
