A lecturer at South Sudan’s University of Juba who had his phone stolen was not about to let the robbery go unnoticed!
Occurring during the university’s Introduction to Computer Science session, at their Custom Campus, a lecturer alleged that his smartphone – a Tecno Spark 10 Pro – vanished from his desk at the end of the lecture, reports the Central African, online publication Hot in Juba.
The unidentified lecturer reportedly stated, “I had placed it on the table while lecturing, and when I left, I absent-mindedly forgot the phone. Upon my return, it was apparent that the device had been taken.”
While asking the class to return his electronic device, the lecturer also warned the students a punishment related to their academics would be set, should the phone not be returned in his possession.
“All students are affected. Payment is a must for everyone,” noted the alleged victim. “I will give you an F in exams if you don’t pay.”
The lecturer was evidently serious as the threat extended to all students, including those from the School of Computer Science and Information Technology plus Cybersecurity and the School of Applied Sciences.
The contribution from each student for the missing cell phone, as demanded by the lecturer, was 3000 South Sudanese Pounds (about 438 South African Rands) for a replacement phone that has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity.
Hot in Juba also reports that this is not the first time the lecturer has imposed such threats. According to a statement from second-year students, they were previously ordered to contribute money towards the lecturer’s trousers. Failure to pay would have allegedly cost them their academic grades.
