In an economy where graduates struggle to find jobs, internet users are not happy with what they studied versus what they are doing now.

TikTok user @xo20203 posted on her page what she was currently doing now after graduating. In the video, the creator took part in the TikTok challenge where people showed themselves on graduation versus what they are doing now. While some creators have good things to share others still face one of the most common socio-economic challenges, unemployment.

According to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), the unemployment rate in the country has since increased from 32,1% to 32,9% in the first quarter of the year.

This video made internet users emotional as nothing ever prepares you for unemployment, no matter what you may study.

One user shared that after graduating with a Criminology degree, they ended up as a domestic worker.

Another user commented: “I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, Honours in Anthropology a Diploma in Data Science and I ended up as a firefighter.”

Another TikTok user suggested the creator leave the province and apply for education jobs outside Kwa-Zulu Natal and reassured her that she would surely find something within a week.

One user said: “I have a Diploma in IT but working long hours in retail. It’s been 2 years since I completed my degree in varsity.”
