MagentaPro is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated 2023 Imbewu Arts Festival, set to grace the stage from November 16th to 19th. The festival, now in its 9th year, promises to be a celebration of innovation, creativity, and the burgeoning talents of young artists.

Hosted at The Stable Theatre, Durban, the festival will be open to the public from Thursday to Friday at 18:00 PM, Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 AM. The historic venue will come alive with a vibrant display of performances and workshops that showcase the essence of artistic expression.

Founded in 2014 by Thobani Nzuza, Mnqobi Msimango, Thembinkosi Thwala, and Nhlakanipho Gamede, the Imbewu Arts Festival serves as a nurturing ground for young and dynamic artists, offering them a platform to flourish through immersive theatre workshops and mentorship opportunities provided by their peers in the arts industry.

The festival’s name, “Imbewu,” meaning “the seed,” encapsulates its mission to explore and amplify the
potential of the future generation of theatre professionals. Fezeka Shandu, the visionary behind the festival, remarks, “Imbewu Arts Festival is more than just an arts festival; it’s a movement to uncover the latent brilliance within our emerging talents. We believe in the power of this seed—our young artists—to grow and
shape the future of theatre.” Central to the festival’s objectives is its dedication to motivating young artists to proactively develop their craft.

The scarcity of platforms for new graduates to showcase their ingenuity has been a persistent challenge, which the Imbewu Arts Festival aims to rectify. By empowering these emerging theatre creatives, the festival encourages them to create boundary-pushing work and produce local content of a high standard. The 2023 Imbewu Arts Festival promises a captivating array of performances, workshops, and collaborations that reflect the spirit of innovation that drives young artists forward.
