How you can experience a vacation without travelling

Whenever you think of having a vacation you immediately think of outside your house, even outside the country. You start imagining yourself in the beautiful sceneries of other places and when you come back to your senses, you start worrying about travelling costs.

What if I told you that you don’t need to go anywhere to have a vacation? You probably don’t even have to leave that house. You are now wondering how that could be possible.

Well, several trusted publications seem to believe that there are ways to create a vacation atmosphere in the comfort of your home or surrounding area. Here are some of these techniques:

Read books and watch movies that transport you: The Aesthetic of Joy publication suggests that you explore books and movies that transport you to the destination. It is stated that you look for works by native or indigenous authors, as travel writers may have limited perspectives. “Search out famous (or not-so-famous) books or films from the part of the world you’re wanderlusting after. It’s especially worth seeking out works by native or indigenous authors, who live or were raised in a place, as opposed to travel writers, who have a more limited perspective. Then get lost in these during your staycation week.”

Explore your local area: Explore your hometown by trying new restaurants, shopping at local boutiques, enjoying ice cream at a dairy, visiting historical landmarks, greeting passersby, and singing while walking without an agenda, advises Sass Magazine.

Create your vacation playlist: The above publication also states that you play the music that sets you in the vacation mood, the type of music and sounds you would want to hear when travelling. “Want to hear the calming sounds of the ocean? Find a relaxing soundtrack on Spotify featuring beachy sounds. Like the peaceful call of birds in the morning… yep, you guessed it, find a soundtrack (or just crack your window open in the morning!). Whatever sounds put you in a vacation or relaxing mood, put them on and play them throughout the day.”

Virtually visit a museum: Away From Origin suggests that “If you’re the kind of person who likes to visit a museum wherever you travel, then you can also do that at home! Many museums offer free virtual tours on their websites, on YouTube, and through other resources like Google’s Arts & Culture program.”

Cook an international recipe: The above publication also claims that you can cook a foreign meal which may introduce you to a new culture. “Challenging a new recipe that you learned from your previous travels or of a destination you want to go to is a great feeling.”
