How to keep your child safe in crowded places

Losing sight of your little one in a mall or at a busy event is every parent’s nightmare. Children are so curious that you need to pay attention to them all the time, especially in crowded places.

While it is great to explore and expose your young ones to new experiences, safety should always be a top priority.

Here are some essential safety tips to implement in order to ensure their safety:

Teach them important information

According to the South African Police Service, knowing important information is a vital part of child safety. Before heading out, always teach your child their full name, your own name and your phone number.

Knowing these important details can save them from getting lost. Even very young children can be taught to recite information, especially phone numbers. Try by all means to ensure they know to give this to a trusted adult in case they get lost.

Some parents take extra measures by using temporary tattoos or wristbands with the parent’s contact information. In the event that the child gets lost, this information can help a safe adult contact you quickly.

Find a mom with children

As reported by IOL, the longstanding rule that suggests children seek out a mother with children for safety remains relevant today. It’s important to teach your child that if they ever become separated from you, they should look for another mother who has children. In most cases, a parent with their own children is the safest person your child should be around.

Use technology

The same way you use tracking devices for your bags at the airport, you should also be open to using tech for the safety of your children.

The world revolves around technology, and no parent would be judged for taking precautions regarding their own child.

When visiting crowded places like malls or festivals, equip your children with a GPS tracking device, a wearable tracker or other child tracking devices. There are endless options for these devices.

Try to stay calm and act quickly

If your child does get lost, try to stay calm. Although this is extremely hard for any parent, acting frantically may not be helpful. Alert security personnel immediately and provide them with your child’s description and photo so they can help. Always retrace your steps to the last place you saw them.

By following these child safety tips, you can help ensure that your outings with your young children are enjoyable and worry-free.
