Having an overly active child can leave a parent overwhelmed, exhausted and helpless, especially if the child is not the only offspring.

With life and the economy having changed drastically, some parents have had to look for employment in order to keep the family afloat making getting home to an overly active child an added task.

While a busy child is still better than a child who is closed and a non-communicator, there are ways to manage our busy bees leaving the whole family happier. Below we have shared five tips you may want to try to calm an overly active child, shared by My Toddler.

Take your child for a walk – walks are usually good to rejuvenate the child’s mind and their overall wellness. The child is also able to appreciate the scenery as he spends time with you outdoors.

Try and calm your child down – You need to be realistic about the amount of time it might take to change your child’s behaviour as it might not be quick. The above metioned publication adds that you can start by asking your child to sit still for about 5 minutes and move the minutes up as the the time goes. Giving incentives every now and again can also help draw more interest.

Play Games – Children generally love playing with their parents both indoors and outdoors. My Toddler shares, “try chess, ludo, chinese checkers and UNO with them. If they’re feeling a bit adventurous, then take them outdoors to play games like table tennis, badminton, soccer, and cricket.”

Change Diet – Changing your kids diet to home cooked meals and free of preservatives and artificial flavours may work to your kid’s advantage as balanced meals are good for their overall health and well being.
