Getting rid of cockroaches  can often be a sport as pesticides can be expensive and at times can be quite harmful for you and your family. Do not allow these flying and crawling insects to ruin your living experiences.

Here area a few things that you need to know about cockroaches as advised by Hulett Environment Services – a pest control service:

  • Most of these fast insects contain wings but however cannot fly.
  • They come in various shapes, sizes and colours depending on the species.
  • They can cause infections and diseases such as typhoid fever, gastroenteritis and cholera.
  • They leave behind substances such as faeces and urine which triggers asthma and allergies.
  • Female cockroaches have the ability to rapidly breed and produce 30,000 cockroaches in a year.

If these unwanted visitors have started intruding your home and you would like to get rid of them, then stick around as we inform you of a few home remedies that may be useful in chasing them away.

A pest control and home cleaning service that maintains personal hygiene – HiCare – advises these home remedies:

  • Vinegar

Create an equal mixture of water and vinegar and add to a spray bottle. Spray this solution to all the areas that you have seen roaches. Vinegar is a repellent that should easily chase them away.

  • Bay Leaves

The above mentioned site mentions that bay leaves are a natural repellent that should be place nearby all openings such as doors and windows.

  • Essential Oils

Mix either a few drops of peppermint or eucalyptus oil in water and add to a spray bottle and spray this solution to all affected areas. The oils in the water will act as a repellent.

  • Baking Soda and Sugar

HiCare advises to, “Mix equal parts of baking soda and sugar and sprinkle the mixture in areas where cockroaches are likely to be found,” further stating that the sugar will attract these insects while the baking soda kills them.
