Coco Safar

Coco Safar, a beloved spot in Sea Point, offers decadent hot chocolate crafted from a secret blend of dark, milk, and white Valrhona chocolate. Priced at R48, it’s served with a shot of sparkling water and a complimentary lemon-poppy seed madeleine. You can also try their Café Mocha, a delightful mix of hot chocolate and coffee, for R45. Both options are available year-round.

Bootlegger Coffee Company is a popular chain with several locations across Cape Town. Their hot chocolate is made from a blend of high-quality raw cocoa and coconut milk, resulting in a creamy and comforting drink, it’s also entirely vegan. Priced at R39 (White or dark hot chocolate), it’s available year-round and can be enjoyed with oat or almond milk for an additional R7. It’s also light so you can still get a coffee or pair it with a snack.

Moro Gelato

Moro Gelato, known for its Italian gelato, offers a thick Italian hot chocolate made with 70% Belgian chocolate, perfect for eating with a spoon. The classic version is priced at R37, while hot chocolate with homemade whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa or cinnamon costs R42. For R47, you can add a scoop of gelato or sorbetto. Their vegan hot chocolate, made with pure melted chocolate, is also a must-try. Note that all hot chocolate varieties are available only during winter.
