As temperatures rise at the beginning of this new season, exploring your local town, city, or province should become an essential part of your family’s weekend activity.

Gone are the days of staying indoors because of the cold winter season; the return of spring offers so much beauty, from the beautiful emergence of wildflowers on the West Coast to whale watching along the southern coastline. There is so much to do and plenty to explore.

If you find yourself living up north of the country, in provinces like Gauteng, you are not excluded.

The province prides itself as being a place with a tapestry of heritage with traditions, cultural practices, and expressions—as a source of strength, unity, and solidarity.

Make this Spring one to remember by immersing yourself in the discovery of some of Gauteng’s most beautiful hidden gems.

Here is a list of places for you and your family to explore:

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens

What is Spring without a touch of nature? The botanical garden has been in existence for decades. You and your family can have a lovely picnic while embracing both animal and plant life, making it a day you will never forget.

South African Museum of Military History

Discover all there is to explore about some of our country’s past military veterans when you visit the SA Museum of Military History. The museum features military-related records, journals, weapons and photographs that depict the nation’s participation in large-scale conflicts.

Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary

If wildlife is more your thing, the province has you sorted with an abundance of safari experiences where you can have real, live interaction with some of the most prominent wildlife species.

Among these is the Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary in Roodeplaat. Here, you can engage in activities such as game drives, take a guided bush walk, pet or walk with cheetahs, see cub feeding sessions, or observe the lions.

Hot Air Balloon

If having an adrenaline rush and a bird’s eye view of the world is more suitable, then hot air ballooning is something you need to experience. The province has a multitude of locations where you can experience this while the charming African sunset provides the perfect backdrop for a beautiful evening.
