If you’re looking for exciting places to visit with your kids in the Eastern Cape, as someone who grew up in the EC, I’ve got some fantastic suggestions for you

East London

This is my personal favourite, we have always visited this city with my family since I was a little girl, and it has been a family tradition that we take kids here each year.

  • East London Museum: A great place to learn about the region’s history and natural environment.
  • Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve: A beautiful spot for a family hike or picnic.
  • East London Coast Nature Reserve: Offers stunning coastal views and a variety of wildlife.

Tsitsikamma

Here are some places you can try out and are kids friendly:

  • Tsitsikamma National Park: Explore the park’s hiking trails, waterfalls, and coastal scenery. Don’t miss the suspension bridge and the Big Tree!
  • Bloukrans Bridge Bungy: While kids might not be able to bungee jump, they’ll love watching the action from the viewing area.
  • Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour: Take a guided zip-line tour through the forest canopy for a thrilling adventure.

Knysna

This is a beautiful destination for a family vacation! Here are some exciting places to visit with your kids:

  • Knysna Heads: Explore the iconic Knysna Heads, two dramatic sandstone cliffs that guard the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon.
  • Knysna Elephant Park: Get up close and personal with rescued elephants and learn about conservation efforts.
  • Knysna Lagoon: Enjoy boat cruises, kayaking, or paddleboarding on the tranquil lagoon.
  • Featherbed Nature Reserve: Take a ferry to the reserve and explore the scenic trails, beaches, and stunning views.
  • Knysna Waterfront: Stroll along the bustling waterfront, grab a bite to eat, and browse local shops and markets.
