Don’t toss those old sheets! Get crafty with these DIY ideas

PICTURE: PEXELS/ BED SHEETS

Your bed sheets will start to show their age as time goes on, and this may be due to some discolouration or even stretching. Sheets usually last for about 2 to 3 years depending on the material used.

The good thing about your old sheets is you can repurpose them any way you want. They are versatile and can be used in other practical ways.

Brilliant ways to repurpose bed sheets

Reuse as tote bags

Reusable tote bags are an eco-friendly alternative to using plastics. Make yours more sustainable by fashioning out your old bed sheets. This crafty idea allows you to be creative as you let your imagination run wild. Cotton and linen sheets are the best fabrics for this eco-friendly idea.

Use as pet beds

Another great idea for repurposing bed sheets is using them to make your furry friends more comfortable. Pile a few of your old sheets to create a cute cosy bed for your pets. Just layer the sheets a few times and securing well enough to make sure they are in place and comfortable for your pets. You can add cushions for extra comfort.

Reuse as furniture protector.

Speaking of pets, they can leave fur everywhere they go around the house. Why not reuse your old bed sheets as furniture covers? This can help avoid the fur your pets leave. Your old bed sheets are the perfect textile protectors that will keep your couch looking fresh for longer.

Make crafty costumes

Good old bed sheets can be an affordable way to make various costumes for your kids. Making a quick ghost costume will be much easier with an older sheet. Use the old sheets to allow your kids to get creative with whatever outfits they want to create.

Remake as pillowcases

You can give the old bed sheets a touch of class with a new purpose. With your old sheets, repurpose them into new pillowcases. Just measure them to the size of your pillow and sew them to fit your pillows. Get creative by adding decorative touches and embellishments to the cases.
