Spiders can be pesky pests, and their webs can be difficult to get rid of. If you’re looking for some do-it-yourself tricks to eliminate those pesky webs then look no further.

South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), a government organization that aims to conserve and protect South Africa’s biodiversity says that spiders spin webs to catch prey and to create a place to live.

Some spiders spin webs that are meant to catch prey, while others spin webs that are designed to protect them from predators. The type of web a spider spins depends on its species and its environment.

Here are five DIY tricks to get rid of spider webs as shared by Wild About Animals, a website dedicated to educating people about wildlife:

  • Use a vacuum cleaner: This is the easiest and most effective method. Simply attach the hose attachment to your vacuum and carefully vacuum up the spider webs. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies, and don’t forget to empty the vacuum bag or canister when you’re done.
  • Use a broom: If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, a broom can also be effective. Simply sweep the spider webs away from the ceiling and walls. This method may take a bit longer, but it’s just as effective.
  • Seal up cracks and crevices around your home: Spiders can sneak in through even the tiniest of spaces, so seal up any cracks or crevices around your windows, doors, and other openings.
  • Keep your home clean and tidy: Spiders are attracted to dirt and clutter, so keep your home clean and tidy to make it less inviting to them.
  • Get rid of any food sources: Spiders are attracted to food, so make sure to seal up any open food containers and keep your kitchen clean.

In conclusion, spider webs are spun for two main reasons: to catch prey and to create a place to live. Spider webs are made from silk produced by spiders, and the type of web they spin depends on the species of spider and its environment.

You can prevent spiders from spinning webs in your home by keeping it clean, tidy, and free of any food sources that might attract them. Additionally, you can install yellow bug lights to make your home less attractive to both spiders and insects.
