How to beat the summer heat

It’s summer and everyone just wants to relax, but how do you relax in this heat without leaving your house?

There are so many things you can do at home with your kids to have the best summer experience without spending too much money.

Firstly, you have to identify what you enjoy doing and hack your way into a “bust your move summer”.

For example, close everything all the way up to block the sun from coming inside the house, things like blinds, curtains and doors. Good living suggests “A cleverly-positioned bowl of ice is all you need to turn a fan into a cold mist machine. Place a shallow bowl or pan of ice in front of a fan for an icy-cool breeze that won’t break the bank.”

Always have water in the fridge, so that instead of drinking a cold soda you can hydrate with water and make sure you make your own lemonade or ice tea, they are healthy, easy to make and cost effective.

Lemonade recipe

  1. Slice lemons in half.
  2. Squeeze them into a large measuring cup. A citrus juicer or squeezer makes this process easier. There should be about  1/2 cups of lemon juice to make 2 liters of lemonade.
  3. Remove any seeds.
  4. Combine the lemon juice with sugar, stir into the cold water. Serve over ice.

Iced Tea recipe

  1. Put tea bags, sugar, honey and 1.5 litres of water in a large jug. Leave to infuse for 10 mins, then remove and discard the tea bags.
  2. Stir in lemon juice, lemon slices, orange slices and mint leaves.
  3. Fill tall glasses with ice and pour over the iced tea, then serve with extra honey to taste.

Make ice lollies with an empty yogurt container by putting in any drink mixture of your choice, put a stick in it and freeze it for the kids to enjoy later, you can do the same for your adult beverages of your choice and enjoy them frozen.

Your house should always be clean and organized so that you can feel the breeze of fresh air and find a place with shade outside where you can have your meals and drinks.
