Delivery driver crosses Eastern Cape river to deliver parcel

Would you go the extra mile, or kilometre, for a customer? In the case of one delivery driver, the answer was yes. Taking on rivers and hills, this man stopped at nothing to deliver a parcel to Wild Coast-based couple Warren and Nolizwi Hudson.

On Friday, 29 March, late in the afternoon, the couple received a call from their Takealot delivery driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, regarding their package.

According to the publication Good Things Guy, Warren and Nolizwi were informed by the driver that he was at Mngcibe Village, which is situated on the opposite side of the Mdumbi River where the couple were located.

“The gentleman asked if it were in order if he left our parcel for us at Freedom O’ Clock Backpackers Retreat, to which we explained that we would prefer to take delivery of it here at our home as arranged with Takealot, as we were extremely busy and had no means of crossing the river to collect the parcel. [We] kindly asked for them to bring it to us, to which the gentleman agreed,” wrote the couple on their business’s Facebook page.

To Warren and Nolwizi’s surprise, the driver delivered the package sooner than they had expected. On top of that, he was visibly exhausted and drenched from the river he had crossed.

“He went on to explain that he thought it was too far to drive so he jogged down to the river, hitched a ride on a kayak across the Mdumbi and then ran along the beach and up the hill to bring us our parcel,” shared the couple. “This is what going beyond the call of duty is. He went out of his way to ensure that the delivery was made.”
