by Samantha Mochele

When illness strikes the last thing on many people’s minds is often food.

Appetites diminish, taste buds seem to lose their edge and the thought of eating can be daunting.

We will delve into the reasons why eating the best food while sick is not only beneficial but crucial for a speedier recovery.

According to health and wellness publication, Healthline, the right foods to eat when you’re sick can do so much more than give you energy, they can help you feel better, get better faster, or stay hydrated as you recover.

Let’s explore the best food as recommended by Healthline.

Chicken soup: The warmth and steam from the soup can help clear nasal passages, and the broth can provide hydration.

Additionally, chicken soup often contains vegetables which provide essential nutrients that can support your immune system. So, while it may not directly cure your sickness, it can certainly make you feel a bit better.

Bananas: Bananas are easy to digest and rich in potassium, They’re soft and bland but rich in nutrients and fast-acting carbs.Which can help replenish electrolytes if you’ve been vomiting or have diarrhea.

Spinach: Spinach provides the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, and it is a good source of iron, a mineral that is also important to immune function as reported by Forbes Health Experts.

Rice: Plain white rice is another bland option that can be easy on the stomach. It provides carbohydrates for energy without adding any additional stress to your digestive system according to PubMed rice is a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, selenium, iron, folic acid, thiamin, and niacin; but it is low in fiber and fat. Although brown rice is promoted as being ‘healthier’ because of bioactive compounds, including minerals and vitamins not present in white rice after polishing, white rice is more widely consumed than brown.
