Benefits of magnesium in your fitness journey

Having regular exercise should be a very important part of our daily routines. The benefits of going for a walk, light jog or even lifting some weights have time and time again proven to produce several positive results not just for our physical well-being, but the internal functions of the body as well.

“Physical activity stimulates many brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier, more relaxed, and less anxious. You also may feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem,” explains the reputable health publication Mayo Clinic.

Additionally, it is also known to both prevent and manage certain health problems such as stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression.

While exercise is often effective in fulfilling its intended task, it may be wiser to balance the physical activity you do during your exercise routine with having a healthy diet.

This often means digesting tons of vitamins and nutrients to have your body functioning at its best. One of these essential vitamins is magnesium.

“Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for healthy muscles, nerves, bones and blood sugar levels,” explains online health publication Health Direct.

The publication adds that it is essential that one gets enough magnesium in your diet over long periods. Those who do not get the sufficient amount needed may be putting themselves at risk of health problems such as a heart attack, stroke, diabetes or osteoporosis.

When it comes to the life of an athlete or fitness enthusiast, there might be several benefits that come along with this.

When training, many of us might suffer the effects of delayed muscle onset soreness (DOMS). This is met by tight or sore muscles that often come as a result of strenuous exercise. By consuming magnesium into your diet your body can counter some of these effects.

Biosphere highlights that magnesium has the following benefits on your fitness journey:

  • Improved exercise performance
  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Prevent injury
  • Better quality sleep.

Some foods with the highest amount of magnesium include avocados, bananas, papaya, raisins as well as apples.
