The winter season is fast approaching forcing us to find ways to keep ourselves protected from the winter chills in order not to get sick.

Making sure we stay warm in the chilly season will not only require us to stack our bodies with layers of clothes, but we will also have to incorporate a few things around the house.

From the foods, clothes, and moisturisers we apply own in our bodies, there are many ways to stay warm.

Below we share five ways to stay warm this coming winter season.

Layer up – Wearing layers of clothes is said to be better than just one puffy garnet. Doing this will make sure that no cold air reaches your skin. The British Heart Foundation advises to invest in clothes made of cotton, wool or fleecy fabric.

Keep draughts out and heat in – Closing out the gaps that bring in draughts in the house is important in your house. This can be done by investing in draft door stoppers to keep your home warmth locked in. The draught may also enter through windows, it is thus important to change your curtains to warm heavy curtains that will block the cold from going to the rest of the house. A tip: “Keep your curtains open in the day to let light and warmth in, and draw them before it gets dark to avoid losing heat,” shares the above-mentioned hub.

Wear Thick Socks or Slippers – When my feet get cold, it doesn’t matter how many layers of clothes I put on, as the possibility of being warm is very unlikely. Home content information hub The Spruce suggests, “For an extra cosy feel, slip on a pair of ultra-warm wool stocks. Or keep a pair of slippers or shoes to wear around the house, especially if you tend to have.”

Enjoy a Cup of Soup – A warm cup of soup is highly advisable during the cold season as it will warm your insides therefore warming your body. Being in a warm home enjoying warm food will surely keep you out of the doctor’s office. “Soup generally takes a while to cook, and the simmering pot on the stove will generate heat in the kitchen,” adds The Spruce.

Do Something Active – The cold might make some of us feel lazy as we want to snuck in under blankets infant of the heater, it is important to incorporate some body activity as that is bound to warm you up. The above-mentioned hub adds, “You could clean the house, exercise, tackle a home repair, or play a game. Consider setting a timer as a reminder to get up and move every so often, so your body doesn’t become so cold and stiff that you don’t feel like being active.”
