Lying is a common behaviour in humans. Often, there is a very specific reason why someone tells a lie. Lying can be employed as a means of achieving a purpose. However, for pathological liars, they often lie without justification and without caring about the repercussions.

According to Mayo Clinic, a pathological liar simply means the person has a compulsive urge to lie about matters big and small, regardless of the situation.

The lies are often lengthy and elaborate. Even when it hurts them, pathological liars frequently fabricate stories. As a result of their lying, they can lose their employment and damage their relationships.‌

Below are some signs to indicate a pathological liar.

Their truths are changeable

E Times notes that a pathological liar won’t adhere to a single viewpoint. As they attempt to cover up their mistakes by inventing justifications or circumstances where they are not at all to blame, you’ll note that their explanations are changing by the minute.

They are not reliable

You’ll discover that your partner is completely unreliable, and when situations arise when you need their assistance, they vanish, leaving you in a vulnerable position. In your darkest hours, a spouse should be able to support and stand with you. A liar won’t actually try to help you; they’ll just try to explain away why they couldn’t.

Always plays the victim

When confronted with a challenge, some pathological liars play the victim in an effort to gain sympathy, states Marriage.com. Everyone around them will feel bad for them and give them advice because they are always the ones who are mistreated and taken advantage of.

Avoids confrontations

At all costs, they will try to avoid confronting you. Pathological liars tend to keep their mouths shut when their errors or faults are on display. They’ll make an effort to alter the course of events and assign responsibility to you.

They are manipulative

If your partner lies to you repeatedly in an effort to get you to say “yes,” they are a pathological liar. They’ll make an effort to hurt your feelings or even use blackmail to get you to do things for them. They’ll try to cast you as a villain in the romance.
