Are you looking to take a break from your normal life, spend some much-deserved time away with family, and make memories that will last a lifetime? Then going on holiday is something you should be considering.

One of the best places to visit is Zanzibar. Known for its beautiful beaches and coral reefs, and so much to do, this Island is the epitome of what a holiday should be.

Travel agency Africa Mecca Safaris explains that the reason so many people view this Island as one of the top holiday destinations is because of its distinct ethnic history that is a remarkable amalgamation of the many travellers that have passed through over the centuries.

5 Things to do at Zanzibar

Visit Stone Town

If you are looking to explore, the history and cultural diversity of the island, then Stone Town is one of the locations you should explore.

The renowned travel agency, African Adventures highlights that because of its narrow streets, this town is best explored when walking.

Visit Jozani Forest

According to African Adventures, this forest is home to the “colobus monkeys, a rare species found only in Zanzibar, as well as Sykes monkeys, small buck, chameleons, bush babies, over 50 species of butterflies and 40 species of birds.” Here you will be accompanied by a tour guide.

Kite Surfing

While you are there be sure to visit Paje Beach. This is described as a kitesurfing haven. The beach is on the island’s southeast coast and, despite also offering exceptional scuba diving, remains much quieter than the popular northern beaches. This means that you have more room to do as many tricks as you would like to.

Food Markets

If food is your love language, then this is a destination for you. The Island has several food markets that will allow you to explore several different flavours and aromas.

While we may be facing the colder winter months, travel agency, Audrey Travel, says Zanzibar can be visited at any time of the year as temperatures between 28°C and 34°C and sunshine are the norm.

“In Stone Town, you can see Freddie Mercury’s birthplace, the House of Wonders, an infamous old slave fort, and Stone Town’s famous fish market,” explains the travel information hub.

Why you should go on holiday

According to the British publication Stay Sure, numerous benefits come with going on holiday.

Some of these include:

Being more active

Being on holiday means that you are guaranteed to be more active. This is because you will be visiting several tourist attractions, walking along scenic routes, and exploring the surroundings of the place you are at. This makes it easier to get in more steps than you would if you were home.

Recharges your batteries

According to a study done by Stay Sure, people who are on holiday have more time to decompress and get rid of the pressures of life and work. This has many health benefits. “Relaxation drops your blood pressure and reduces the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in your blood.”

Embracing the elements

“A healthy amount of sunshine gives your body a boost of vitamin D, which can promote strong bones and a more effective immune system and boost energy levels.”

However, the above-mentioned publication highlights that it is important to wear sun protection to ensure that your skin is covered with damage.
