Five suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court sometime today,14 September 2026, after a 25-year-old e-hailing driver was allegedly kidnapped, raped and held for ransom in Heathfield, Cape Town.

The suspects, two women aged 23 and 34, two men aged 42 and 48, and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested by Steenberg police following the incident on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the driver had met one of the female suspects through his e-hailing business the previous week. The two exchanged telephone numbers and remained in contact before arranging to meet.
Police allege that when the driver went to meet the woman, he was kidnapped by the group. The two female suspects allegedly raped him while the men were allegedly involved in holding him captive.
The provincial police spokesperson, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, confirmed the incident, saying, “Police were informed by the victim’s brother, who was contacted by the suspects, demanding R4,000 cash to release him. They located the victim through his vehicle tracker and found him at Southampton Road in Heathfield.”

According to EWN, the arrests have highlighted the potential risks faced by e-hailing drivers, particularly when interactions with people met through their work develop into private arrangements.
The suspects are expected to face charges relating to rape, kidnapping and extortion. The precise charges and further details of the case are expected to emerge when the matter comes before court.
The 16-year-old accused is a minor, and his identity cannot be published in accordance with South African law.
The five suspects remain accused at this stage and have not been convicted. Their appearance at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court is expected to give the court its first opportunity to consider the allegations.
However, for now, this is still a developing story.
