While we often dwell on many other factors that aid in bad posture and poor health, let us not overlook sleeping positions. Below we’ve compiled a few pointers that may assist enhance your posture.

The importance of sleeping patterns is not just purely based on comfort but rather ensures spinal alignment, relieving back pain, and improving your overall posture.

How Does Sleep Affect Posture?

Upright – a USA-based company that manufactures products that aid with back health – states that “Good posture doesn’t only involve sitting and standing but also how we relax and sleep.” They further highlight that sleeping is important to maintain spinal alignment and when one sleeps in a rather uncomfortable position, it will cause back pain and muscle strain. “The spine naturally curves in an S-shape, and it’s important to support the body along the length of this curve,” explains the above source. Sticking to the recommended S-curve helps with ensuring that there is no ” added pressure on the lower back or developed kinks.”

  • Better breathing.
  • Reduced back pain.
  • Improved sleep quality

Position 1: Side sleeping. 

Position 2: Back sleeping.

Position 3: Reclined sleeping.

According to Upright, maintaining good sleeping positions day and night will, “increase the effectiveness of your sleep. Getting good sleep is vital to daily health and well-being.”
