Robertsons #WorldOfSpices Adventure

by Kwanele Mathebula
#WorldOfSpices

Robertsons Spices took us on a sensorial adventure at the picturesque Avondale Wine farm in the Western Cape. Here, we got to experience the brand’s journey as it establishes itself towards clean labelling.

Clean Labelling

Clean labelling is a consumer-driven movement, which demands a return to real food and transparency through authenticity. It’s a move towards food products containing natural, familiar and simple ingredients that are easy to recognise, understand, and pronounce. It’s a move towards food that contains no artificial ingredients or synthetic chemicals.

Robertsons Spice experts travelled around the world in search of the best spices and herbs sourced from countries such as Mexico, Spain, India and Egypt. This we experienced in their greenhouse at Avondale Wine farm, where we got to plant our own veggies. The herbs and spices are GMO-free and have no added MSG. They have also stopped exposing their spices to radiation, but instead use steam sterilisation to ensure that any harmful organisms are removed, making them safe to consume.

Fun fact: Did you know that Robertsons Spices is a proudly South African brand that has been around since 1924? It comes as no surprise that they can be found in many South African homes.

Our lunch at Avondale Wine farm’s farm-to-fork Faber restaurant was made using Robertsons Spices. The restaurant uses all natural ingredients grown from their organic farm or they outsource from businesses that make use of sustainable practices. This is in-line with Robertsons’ commitment to an all-natural journey to ensure that their products are as natural as possible for their consumer.

Roberstonsffer a diverse range of spices and rubs that you can use in all your meals and across all diets. From mixed herbs to veggie seasoning to a firm favourite, chicken spice, they suit every taste. We got to experience this first-hand during a wine tasting paired with appetizing meals in the wine farm’s cellar. Here, our palettes were transported to parts of the world such as India, Indonesia and Mexico.
