Why am I bloated?: Foods that cause bloating

Suddenly feeling like an inflating balloon and like you are about to burst?

It all starts with what you eat, then suddenly feeling bloated. However, you may ask yourself what foods you might have eaten that caused the bloating.

According to Health Essentials, certain foods tend to linger longer than they should in your winding intestinal tract. These foods that sit then begin to decompose and ferment causing you to feel bloated.

Healthline suggests you avoid or limit these foods to reduce bloating and gas:

Beans

Beans contain high amounts of protein and carbs. They are also very rich in fiber

If beans are your favourite then try soaking them first or reduce your intake of beans to help reduce bloating and gas.

Carbonated drinks

These drinks are very common for the cause of bloating. These drinks contain high amounts of carbon dioxide which is a gas.

A great alternative is water, coffee, tea or try limiting your intake of carbonated drinks

Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables

You might be wondering what are the other cruciferous vegetables. Well, they include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and several other vegetables.

These vegetables are highly nutritious, containing many essential nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, and potassium

You can reduce your intake of cruciferous vegetables to help reduce bloating and eat more spinach, cucumbers, lettuce, sweet potatoes, and zucchini.

Dairy products

Dairy is highly nutritious, as well as an excellent source of protein and calcium.

The dairy products that are notorious for causing bloating include, milk, cheese, cream cheese, yogurt, and butter.

Try switching to Lactose-free milk products to help reduce bloating.

Beer

Beer is a carbonated beverage and a common culprit of bloating.

This is because beer is made from sources of fermentable carbs like barley, maize, wheat, and rice, along with some yeast and water.
