Tips to improve your immune system

Having a strong immune system is by far the most crucial goal to achieve as it involves your health. The impact it has on your body is important to understand.

It is the “firewall” for infections that enter our bodies. Maintaining this desirable immune system becomes a task that one needs to take seriously.

Here are tips to improve your immune system:

According to UCLAHealth, the need for immune-system-boosting supplements may be avoided with a balanced diet. Citrus fruits, berries, ginger, leafy green vegetables, yoghurt, and fermented foods are a few foods that strengthen the immune system. Before taking any supplements, see a doctor because excessive dosages might be dangerous.

The above publication also adds that your body experiences various physical repercussions from stress, many of which also impact your immune system. Stress can also reduce lymphocyte production – white blood cells essential for preventing infections. It can be as easy as taking a few slow, deep breaths throughout the day to manage stress.

WebMD states that your immune system won’t be able to fight against sickness without it. The average adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep per night. You should maintain a regular bedtime routine, be active during the day, avoid caffeine close to bedtime, keep your bedroom cool, and allow yourself some downtime at the end of the day to improve your quality of sleep.

“Moderate-intensity exercise mobilizes immune cells outside of the bone into the bloodstream. It also helps move immune cells already in the bloodstream into tissues. In this way, it enhances immune surveillance,” says Dr Chen Lin, an Allergy & Immunology doctor at Houston Methodist.

Immune surveillance is a mechanism by which your immune system keeps an eye on things, and exercise makes immune cells more adept at spotting and responding to infections. This means that maintaining an active lifestyle and engaging in regular exercise is crucial, according to the above-mentioned doctor.

“Water is important because our blood and lymph, which have immune cells in them, need water to flow to circulate throughout our bodies,” and that among the many vital functions that water performs in your body is the support of the immune system, she further adds.
