Turmeric is a very versatile spice as it is commonly used for numerous reasons, it is often considered a solution for many health issues. Whether you want to lose weight or you want clear skin, on the list of remedies and solutions you will give, turmeric is most likely to be added.

These are some of the other benefits of this golden spice:

Enhances memory: The Cleveland Clinic claims that a clinical trial proved that curcumin (found in turmeric), taken twice daily for 18 months, improved memory performance in adults without dementia. Researchers believe it reduces brain inflammation and antioxidant properties, reducing neurocognition decline.

Reduces heart disease risks: Turmeric, a spice with anti-inflammatory properties, has been found to lower the risk of heart disease, states the above clinic. It is mentioned that studies show that curcumin supplements can increase resistance to artery endothelial production, a key factor in high blood pressure. Additionally, curcumin is said to have the ability to reduce cholesterol levels, potentially protecting those at risk for heart disease.

Eases arthritis: According to Good Food, this spice’s anti-inflammatory properties have shown promise in easing arthritis, with animal studies showing promising results. “The most compelling evidence for curcumin lies in its ability to alleviate joint pain. Nevertheless, we still need more well-designed clinical trials to determine the efficacy of curcumin for arthritis patients, particularly those who rely on NSAIDS to manage their condition.”

Increases mood levels: The above source also states that curcumin may boost mood and alleviate depression symptoms, “One study examining its anti-depressive effects found that curcumin was as effective as the drug, Prozac.” Curcumin has also been suggested to enhance the production of neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, which are believed to be beneficial for the brain.

Lowers PMS symptoms: WebMD claims that “A recent study that followed women for three menstrual cycles in a row found that curcumin supplements helped ease Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms.”
