The benefits and risks of Botox

Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the world. Widely known to treat wrinkles, Botox can also be used in medicine for treating some muscle conditions. And, like all procedures, Botox has its pros and cons.

According to the beauty company Vibrant Skin Bar, Botox is short for its Latin name, ‘botulinum toxin.’ It is a bacterium that lives freely in nature and causes botulism in humans – a fatal form of food poisoning. If you are thinking of trying Botox, don’t stress. The Botox used by aestheticians is very pure and diluted, and it will only interrupt nerve impulses to muscles.

While Botox can be beneficial for some, it may not be the go-to procedure for many. So, if you feel like going under the needle one day, prepare yourself with a few of these benefits and risks listed by Vibrant Skin Bar.

Benefits

Quick and almost painless: The procedure can take about half an hour, including initial consultation and preparation, as the injection itself takes about only five to ten minutes. The needles used are also quite small and don’t hit any nerves. Thus, when the procedure is complete, patients may walk out feeling no pain.

Results are quick: Smooth, wrinkle-free skin can be seen between two to seven days after the procedure. However, it can take about two weeks for the full result.

Not just aesthetic: Botox not only removes wrinkles, but it can also reduce excessive sweating, relax muscle pain, and help with migraine relief.

Risks

Can trigger allergic reactions: Some people may exhibit allergic reactions to Botox. Therefore, it is important to be injected by a doctor or a physician assistant.

Side effects: Most Botox side effects are mild, causing no major discomfort such as bruising and swelling at the injection site, and some headaches. However, some major issues can occur in a small percentage of people. For example, neck pain, upper respiratory tract infection, nausea, minor loss of speech, and eyelid drooping.

Loss of facial expressions: When injected improperly, Botox can cause the appearance of a constantly frowned or surprised look, or even prevent squinting.

Now that you are familiar with some of the benefits and risks, grab an amazing Botox deal here.
