Staying well-hydrated is essential for maintaining good health, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.

With the warmer months upon us, it is even more necessary to to pay extra attention to our fluid intake. Fortunately, keeping hydrated doesn’t have to be complicated.

Here are some easy and practical ways to ensure you’re always drinking enough water, no matter how busy your day gets.

Start your day with a glass of water

Kick off each morning by drinking a glass of water. It helps to rehydrate your body after hours of sleep, jumpstarts your metabolism, and sets a healthy tone for the day. Keep a glass or water bottle by your bedside so it’s the first thing you see when you wake up.

Carry a reusable water bottle

Having a water bottle within arm’s reach makes it easier to sip throughout the day. Choose a lightweight, BPA-free bottle that you enjoy using. Whether you’re at work, running errands, or outdoors, having water readily available encourages frequent sipping.

Infuse your water with flavour

Plain water can sometimes feel boring, leading to lower consumption. To make hydration more appealing, add slices of fresh fruit (like lemon, strawberries or orange), herbs (like mint or basil), or even cucumber. Infused water not only tastes great but also provides added vitamins and antioxidants.

Incorporate hydrating foods

Eat more water-rich foods such as cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, oranges, and lettuce. These foods contribute significantly to your daily fluid intake.

Set reminders and track your intake

Use your phone or hydration apps to set regular reminders to drink water. Tracking your intake helps you stay conscious of your hydration levels and encourages consistent habits. Aim for at least 8 glasses a day.

Drink before you feel thirsty

Thirst is a sign that your body is already dehydrated. To prevent this, make a habit of drinking small amounts regularly throughout the day, rather than waiting until you’re thirsty.

Limit dehydrating beverages

While coffee and tea do contribute to your fluid intake, excessive caffeine can have a diuretic effect. It also helps to limit sugary fizzy drinks and alcohol, which can dehydrate your body. Rather, opt for water or herbal teas as healthier choices.
