Garlic is renowned for its many nutritional benefits. It is a powerful herb that will not only enhance the aromatic experience of your dishes, but it can also help to heal the body in both its raw and cooked states.

Garlic is widely known for its antioxidants, and antimicrobial and anticancer properties too. Studies also suggest that garlic may be able to prevent heart disease.

The benefits of eating garlic on an empty stomach

  1. Boosts your immune system – consuming garlic on an empty stomach will help to boost your immune system. Eating garlic first thing in the morning can help those with weak immune systems or those with immunodeficiency disorders or autoimmune diseases.
  2. Wards off colds and flu – due to its immune-boosting properties, eating two cloves of garlic on an empty stomach can help keep colds and flu at bay.
  3. Improves gut health – garlic contains inulin, which is a type of non-digestible carbohydrate or “functional fibre” which feeds the good bacteria in your digestive system. Acting as fuel for the good bacteria in your body to perform better, garlic makes your gut a healthy environment for optimal function.
  4. Improves heart health – as garlic contains allicin, a compound that stops oxidizing LDL (low-density lipoprotein) or bad cholesterol, improving heart health over time.
  5. Improves digestion – garlic is great for the intestines. Not only does it help to reduce inflammation, but it also helps to clear your body of intestinal worms.

With all of these incredible health benefits of eating garlic on an empty stomach, perhaps now is the time to add garlic to your morning routine. For best results, eat the garlic with a glass of lukewarm water.
