Preparing your immune system before winter is important as the cold weather and dry air can weaken your immune system, making getting illnesses like colds and flu easier. Therefore, taking steps to boost your immune system before winter can help to reduce your risk of getting sick.

Here are some tips to avoid getting a cold in winter

  • Wash your hands frequently: Cold viruses can survive on surfaces for several hours. So, washing your hands frequently with soap and water, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser, can help reduce your risk of catching a cold.

  • Stay warm: Cold temperatures weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections. So, dress warmly and keep your home and workplace comfortable.

  • Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can also weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to colds. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

  • Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of fluids can help keep your nasal passages moist, making it harder for viruses to take hold.

  • Eat a healthy diet: Eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can help boost your immune system and reduce your risk of catching a cold.

  • Regular exercise can help keep your immune system strong, making it less likely that you’ll catch a cold.
